Coming from a music loving family, Shirin Sengupta ( Nath ) was born with an ear for music. She preferred to play with the seven magical notes to any other toy. As a result she was initiated to music by her parents by her parents Sri Ramani Mohan Nath and Srimati Sunanda Nath rather early.

Shirin started learning "Kheyal" from the eminent gurus Shri Subhrajyoti Chakrabarty and Pandit Dinanath Misra. Then she joined the Sangeet Research Academy and continued her mission under Guru Pandit A T Kanan and special training under Pandit Arun Bhaduri.

She soon obtained the status of a Scholar in Sangeet Research Academy and learned the intricacies of Agra - Jaipur - Gawalior Gahrana from its most renowned performer of the present genre Pandit Ulhas Kashalkar.
